Dining Room

While Maple Hill Manor is not a Tea House, it is an Historic Bed and Breakfast, making it the ideal setting for an Afternoon Tea.  Seating takes place in the formal dining room and parlor featuring the original Maple floors and 14 foot ceilings.  You are welcome to tour the rooms that not occupied as well.  There are some great photo ops including in front of the fireplace in the parlor, the “floating” staircase in the main lobby, and of course on the front steps between the octagonal pillars.  Don’t forget the garden gazebo too!

Maple Hill Manor was built in 1851, before the Civil War.  It was used as an encampment for the Union before the Battle of Perryville, and a hospital for soldiers on both sides after the largest battle in Kentucky.  Phil Simms, the 1977 MVP in the Superbowl was born here, and occasionally his family members still stop by.  It was used as a Boy’s Foster Home in the 80’s, and became a Bed and Breakfast in about 1989/90.  There is a lot of history here, so many stories.  In fact, we are working on a small book to put all of the history, stories and memories in one place.

Most of the tea cups used are fine Haviland China, along with the lunch plates.  The tea pots and cake plates are a variety of fine China and other beautiful dishes, water glasses are crystal; making your afternoon all the more special.  We are continually adding to the collection of China, after all, what is an Afternoon Tea Party without pretty dishes!

You are encouraged to dress up in your Afternoon Tea Best, but it is not required.  We think it is a great excuse to use your Derby Hat and dress again!  But honestly, not everyone does.  And it’s not just for ladies, smart men know that taking their lady on a date for Afternoon Tea is very romantic and will score you major brownie points!

Some of our Afternoon Tea in Kentucky events are just that, others feature a guest speaker, live music, and soon-a fashion show!  Who knows what we will come up with next.  Occasionally we will have a professional photographer to capture your moments too!

The Afternoon Tea in Kentucky Menu changes, but does follow the traditional serving of Savories, Scones and Sweets with as much tea as you like.  At the time of this writing, Elmwood Teas are being served, straight from Danville!  In the past for the savories of the Afternoon Tea, Ham Salad, Cream Cheese & Cucumber, Roast Beef with Creamy Horseradish, Turkey Pesto, Mandarin Orange Chicken sandwiches, BLT Wraps have been served.  Scones flavors of the past include Blueberry Lemon, Peaches and Cream, Butter Pecan, Blackberry Lavender and Feta w/Basil and Sun Dried Tomato.  Sweets have featured a Vanilla Bean Sorghum Pudding, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Cappuccino Nanaimo Bar, Hibiscus Lemon Bar, Brown Sugar Peach Cake and a Basil Lime Cookie.  The menu will continue to change and evolve, as we are always trying something new.  There will also be a focus at Christmas time of holiday favorites, a Fall Tea with the featured flavors of Cranberry, Pumpkin and Spice and other seasonal features.
