The Dinner Train History

The story begins in 1860 when The Bardstown and Louisville Railroad constructed the 29 mile long line. The Bardstown station, also completed in 1860, served as the freight and passenger depot. Now the last remaining “dry-laid” limestone depot in Kentucky, earning it a position on the “National Register of Historic Places.” The R. J. Corman Railroad Company purchased the line in 1987. After renovations the first Dinner Train excursion left the station in 1988.

However the extensively refurbished 1940s, shiny steel skirted cars are the stars of theTrain Murder Mystery dinner railroad. Built after World War II by the Budd Company, these classic cars now include a state-of-the-art kitchen car and 54 seat day coach. Guests enjoy a gourmet meal on the two and half hour journeys through the scenic countryside. Sip a glass of smooth, bourbon with views of local landmarks such as; the Jim Beam distillery, Jesse James’ safe house and the Bernheim Forest.

Special Train Excursions

My Old Kentucky Dinner Train also offers special and seasonal excursions with fun themes. All of the trips include three or four course meals, wonderful views and last around two and half hours. Book your tickets far in advance, these trips are very popular:

  • North Pole Express – It wouldn’t be the holidays without visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus. Children and adults will love this two hour ride with the famous couple. Get into the Christmas spirit with a yummy two-course meal, hot cocoa and a sing-a-long.
  • Murder Mystery – Solve a classic  “whodunit” murder mystery play performed during your four-course meal. The talented actors will have you guessing at every turn and each month has a different mystery to unravel.
  • New Years Eve – Ring in the New Year with style and sophistication. Couples will New Years Eve train partylove the amazing four-course meal served with a bottle of champagne. Always remember this romantic night with your souvenir champagne flutes.
  • Bourbon Excursions – Starting in May take a dinner train ride and learn all about the local bourbon. Relax while a master distiller hosts a bourbon tasting on the two and half hour ride. All guest also receive a souvenir rocks glass.
